What timber and composite materials can I choose for my new deck?

We install Kwila timber, native hardwoods, Garapa, treated pine, and premium composite decking. We help you select materials based on durability, maintenance preferences, and exposure to coastal weather in areas like Mapua and Ruby Bay.

Does my high deck require a building consent or safety barrier balustrade?

We install Code compliant balustrades on decks with a fall height over 1.0 metre under Clause F4 of the New Zealand Building Code. We submit building consents for decks situated over 1.5 metres above ground level.

What is the benefit of choosing composite decking over natural timber?

Composite is built for effortless outdoor living. Unlike timber, it won't splinter, warp, or rot, and it never requires sanding, staining, or oiling. You get the rich look of a timber deck without any of the ongoing upkeep.

What deck styles and edge treatments can I create?

We can build several distinct styles depending on how you us to frame and finish the structure:

Floating Decks: Decks built low to the ground without visible posts anchored directly to a home. They work brilliantly in garden corners using wider boards to create a clean, grounded platform effect.
Picture Framing: Running a perimeter border around the deck using wide boards or double rows to frame the main floorboards neatly (often done in a wider board for emphasis).
Capping & Fascia Wraps: Wrapping exposed outer edges, steps, or perimeter joists with vertical fascia boards or top capping to conceal the subframe and hide board ends.
Metal Trim & Edge Angles: Fitting powder-coated aluminium or stainless steel L-angle capping along perimeter edges creates a sharp, architectural border while protecting exposed edges from heavy wear.
Multi-Level & Integrated Features: Incorporating steps, flush-mounted LED deck lights into border boards, or built-in bench seating to split outdoor areas into distinct living zones.
